We celebrated the soft launch of the new Chun T’oh Whudujut / Ancient Forest Interpretive Centre on August 27, 2026, a significant milestone for the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and the future of one of British Columbia’s most extraordinary landscapes.

Located within one of the world’s only inland temperate rainforests, the new Interpretive Centre is the result of years of collaboration between Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, BC Parks, the Province of British Columbia, the Government of Canada, and community partners. The facility provides visitors with opportunities to learn about Dakelh culture, language, stewardship, and the enduring relationship between the Lheidli T’enneh and Chun T’oh Whudujut.

More than a building, the Interpretive Centre is a place of learning, connection, and cultural sharing. Inspired by traditional Dakelh pit houses and built with the direct involvement of Lheidli T’enneh members, the facility reflects Indigenous stewardship values and a deep commitment to protecting this globally significant ecosystem for future generations.

The project represents a powerful example of reconciliation in action, bringing together Indigenous leadership, government partners, researchers, volunteers, and community members to create a space that honours the past while inspiring future generations.

As visitors explore the Interpretive Centre and Ancient Forest trails, they will discover a story thousands of years in the making, rooted in stewardship, resilience, conservation, and connection to the land.

The interpretive centre is tentatively scheduled to open in May 2027.
