Do you know of anyone ages 15-30 who would be interested in signing up for a Sustainable Food Production cohort? CNC is partnering with us to deliver this. Individuals will receive a learning stipend as well. I have included their description below.
- Introduction to sustainable Food Production is an 8 week course, delivered five-hours a day between April 3 to May 26. Through this course students will develop essential employment skills through an introduction to local, sustainable, small-scale food production for Northern ecosystems (zone 4 b), with an emphasis on Indigenous food systems. Using an experiential learning design, students will examine alternative food systems and will compare the benefits and consequences of local food production. Framed by the principles of permaculture, students will get their hands dirty, learning about seed germination, planting, potting and transfers. They will explore the relationship of soil health, temperature control and stages of growth. Using the CNC greenhouse as a place of fertile learning, students will develop “Skills for Success” alongside time management, safe handling of materials, and reciprocity.
