Joan Brett is a Nak’azdli Whut’en member – her mom is Elsie Schram and her late father was George Schram. Her late maternal grandparents were Agnes and Pius A’Huille.  Joan comes to Lheidli T’enneh First Nation from the First Nations Health Authority and has over 20 years experience working with First Nations people in health, education and social services. Joan has an undergraduate degree in History and a graduate degree in Education with the hopes of starting her PhD in the next couple of years. Joan has four beautiful children – ages are 8, 12, 17 and 20. She is expecting her first grandchild in September 2019. Joan goes back to Fort St. James when she can but she has mainly lived in Prince George. Joan is honoured to be working on the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and with the community. Please feel free to stop and say hello. Snachailya

  • for prenatal health, nutrition, early literacy and learning, and physical, emotional and mental health initiatives

Brighter Futures

  • to promote the health of babies and children

Mental Health Crisis Management

  • to address suicide, depression and other mental health issues

Solvent Abuse

  • to increase awareness about solvent addiction, promote healthier alternative lifestyles and support individuals and families after treatment

Alcohol and Drug Abuse

  • to reduce alcohol and other substance abuse, promote healthier alternative lifestyles and support individuals and families after treatment

Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative

  • to increase awareness of diabetes, to support healthy eating and physical activity, and for early detection of diabetes

Community Health Promotion and Injury/Illness Prevention

  • for maternal and infant health, child health, school health, adolescent health, adult health and Elder health.

HIV/Aids Prevention

  • for HIV/AIDS education and prevention activities

Drinking Water Safety

  • to collect water samples on the Reserve each week, test the water for contaminants, and send the results to Health Canada for interpretation

Research Home Care

  • to conduct a needs assessment and develop a plan to assist members with chronic or acute illnesses to maintain the best possible health, well-being and independence
